How to delete “Incomplete” D365FO environments in LCS

Why is an environment in “Incomplete” status?

One common scenario that you might encounter is getting “Incomplete” status while trying to delete a cloud-hosted environment

How to resolve the “Incomplete” status and finish the deletion?

In the past, it’s out of users control to resolve this. The only way is to filling a support ticket to Microsoft so that D365FO support team (CSS) will handle it on their side to trigger the deletion again.

Per my understanding, in some cases, the deallocated environment is already deleted in Azure side (the corresponding resource group is already removed). However, due to some reasons, the metadata is not cleaned successfully in LCS side. Hence, the environment status becomes “Incomplete”

In some other cases, the environment’s resource group in Azure might not be removed successfully. In this situation, CSS might require you to delete the resource group in Azure side first before they can trigger the LCS metadata deletion.

Now, a new functionality has been introduced so that we, users in LCS, can handle the issue of unsuccessful environment deletion.

Utilizing Delete LCS Metadata button

  1. A cloud-hosted deletion is unsuccessful, you can see its failure details and warning message.
